Stayed

Isaiah 50:10 “Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of His servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? Let him trust in the Name of the Lord and stay upon his God.”

How often in your Christian walk do you feel you are walking in the dark with no light? In those times we depend on God for direction, provision and guidance. This is common to our life as believers and a seeming obvious principle of our walk with Christ.

There is a difference between depending and trusting. We find ourselves often in the position of depending on God; many times we are helpless to change our situation and have no other recourse. Trusting Him in these and all situations is a different exercise altogether.

Imagine a small child who is cared for, but worries about his next meal, provision of clothing, or where he will sleep. That child is depending on his parents, but is not trusting them. This is too frequently our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

We pray, but we worry. We ask, but there is no confidence. We find ourselves powerless to act and so, by default, dependent, but stressed by anxiety. We don’t trust.

Isaiah calls on us to ”stay upon [our] God.” That implies a stability and peace that only comes through real trust. God promises “peace that passeth understanding,” and “perfect peace.” This only comes through trust- confidence in the love and care of our Heavenly Father.
